This is a provocative work, but one which springs from what I feel is a sublime insight about the nature of the feminine in our modern world. I had been thinking of the Blessed Virgin of Catholic tradition, and how despite her virginal qualities, many of the sacred sites associated with her have a decidedly vaginal quality. Nowehere is this more apparent than at Lourdes, where a statue of Mary adorns a fissure in the rock out of which pours water. With such thoughts on my mind, I had a powerful dream of the Virgin in which she revealed her form, the apparition of her vagina being at the same time a kind of visionary portal and a revelation of her Inner Mystery: that it is the female essence within me that has tended to direct and shape my visionary experiences. This piece expresses the thoughts and vision, and is offered with respect to the many traditions that venerate the Virgin.
