There is a remarkable correspondence between migraine imagery - particularly the imagery seen during the aura, the initial stage of the migraine in which flickering lines and shifting patterns cover the visual field and begin a process of synaesthesia - and geometric Palaeolithic art found both in the depths of caves and in remote open-air (rupestric) sites. This image is a composite of aura imagery experienced during several migraines and all of which I have found later having correspondences with specific rock art motifs from the Upper Palaeolithic, whether radial lines of lightning or dots linking to dots, whether sheets and webs of light or long avenues of flickering colours. Here, again, the unity of mankind's visual, symbolic and neurological lives can be clearly felt and experienced.
