The exhibition title piece, this work draws from a series of sketches made in 2002 after a visit to the painted cave at Altamira in Cantabria, Spain. Drawing from a variety of what have been termed ‘public’ works featured at that and other sites, I have aimed to create an overlapping aesthetic similar to the original aesthetic on the cave walls, in which no single work occupies its own demarcated space, but each animal interacts with its neighbours in a manner perhaps similar to how a hunter might view a herd of animals passing by. Featured in this piece are horses, bison, aurochs and ibex – fauna found in Western Europe during Palaeolithic times – in a tableau expressive of constant movement.
