:: Small addition to mural realised by volunteers from the Charlotte Country Day School, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA ::
In November 2016, the volunteer group from the Charlotte County Day School also painted a mural on Gerty & Ivan's house, the homestay where I stayed and was made to feel warmly welcome during both my visits to Melkhoutfontein. Before the mural was sealed, however, Gerty & Ivan wanted to waited until my next visit so I could add something to the painting. Some swifts had been painted close to the sun, so I decided to add some hearts to these, expressing the warmth and love I feel within Gerty's house, then outline them and add swirls of flight. The little addition to their mural reflects my gratitude and love for Gety, Ivan and family, and I always hope to see them again very soon!
