:: 2016 :: 50cm x 75cm :: Acrylics, Inks and Markers on Canvas ::
This piece was created in the three weeks following the June 2016 mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub, Orlando, Florida, which for many reasons affected the Global LGBTQ Community, and brought us together in an outpouring of grief. Here we see a beautiful, powerful figure, half-female, half-male, all-Queer, shimmering over the Orlando skyline with a Rainbow Heart emitting shining love for the whole community. It calls upon us to respond to this attack on our community by becoming more visible and more courageous: more Lesbian, more Gay, more Bisexual, more Transgender, more Queer!!
The original plan for this piece had been to auction it off to raise money for one of several charities working to support the survivors and families of those lost in this tragedy, as well as design a T-shirt to raise more money. Sadly, I didn’t hear back from any of the charities I contacted about this, and so without the credibility of a charity’s backing, I didn’t feel I could run the auction with any integrity. It’s sad, but it’s the way it is for now... so this image stands as a personal tribute to those lost, and to the strength, integrity and Human Truth of LGBTQ pople everywhere.
