A work based upon an early morning dream (which evolved into a hypnogogic experience of half-waking paralysis) which was only fragmentarily remembered a few days later when reading the phrase 'she whispered some numbers to me' in a novel. I immediately re-sensed an image of numbers being somehow physically inserted into me through the power of speech alone. A surreal memory, and a positive one for the creation of this artwork, which dwells upon the magical nature of speech and song in many global traditions to produce a flowing visual effect from right to left across the piece. On a personal level, the process of creating the work also revealed to me how important it is for the artist to completely entrust himself to what is happening, whether in vision or life, no matter how strange or dark the experience may seem at first...
